curling training
Granite Strength Academy's coaching programs are designed for competitive curlers seeking structure,
feedback, and growth throughout the season.
Each athlete or team can select from three core service areas:
-
Gym & Nutrition
-
Sweeping
-
Technical
These programs are fully customizable to fit the athlete's or team's schedule and competitive season. Every component is tailored to where each athlete is currently at, with bi-weekly individual meetings to support personalized growth. Never a one-size-fits-all template.
Services can include:
-
A preseason Base Camp session at a physical location using sport-specific tools (SMARTBROOM, laser analysis, timers)
-
A structured weekly plan tailored to the athlete's goals
-
Bi-weekly virtual check-ins
1. GYM & NUTRITION COACHING
Our Gym & Nutrition service is designed to support athletes through personalized strength and conditioning programs built around the demands of the curling season. Each athlete receives a custom gym plan that aligns with their training age, schedule, and performance goals. In addition, we provide tailored nutrition strategies for pre-game fueling, in-game energy management, and post-event recovery, helping athletes stay strong, energized, and resilient throughout the year. Recovery protocols and injury-prevention techniques are also included to keep you on the ice and at your best.
Metrics: Strength progression, energy/nutrition consistency, recovery quality

2. SWEEPING PERFORMANCE & CONDITIONING
The Sweeping Performance service is delivered primarily online, with personalized coaching designed to improve sweeping technique, mechanics, and endurance. Most of the program is conducted remotely through video analysis and virtual check-ins, allowing athletes to train on their own ice while still receiving expert guidance. For teams or athletes that receive a base camp at the beginning of the season, tools like the SmartBroom and live video feedback are used to gather data and refine technique. All athletes receive tailored sweeping drills, conditioning strategies, and feedback to help build strength, pressure, and sweeping efficiency over the course of the season.
Metrics: Sweeping pressure, frequency, ice-reading ability, fatigue and energy levels

3. TECHNICAL DELIVERY COACHING
The Technical Delivery service helps athletes improve their throwing mechanics and shot consistency through video-based feedback and virtual consulting. Coaching is delivered remotely, with athletes submitting videos of their delivery for breakdown and analysis, followed by custom drills and progressions tailored to their needs. For teams or athletes that receive a base camp at the beginning of the season, in-person assessments with laser-guided feedback and video analysis are used to provide a deeper look at delivery patterns. The ongoing remote structure ensures that curlers can continue improving their delivery no matter where they train, with regular support and targeted technical development throughout the season.
Metrics: Release consistency, shot accuracy, delivery progressions, diverse shot selection development

how it works
Each program is built around your athlete’s goals, schedule, and experience level. Here’s a breakdown of how the in-season coaching works:
1
CHOOSE A TIMEFRAME
-
Month to month
-
Half-Season: 3–4 months (typically Sept–Nov or Dec)
-
Full-Season: 6–7 months (typically Sept–Mar)
We tailor the timeline based on when your team starts playing and how long you'd like ongoing support.
2
KICK OFF WITH BASE CAMP
For athletes training who choose Sweeping or Technical Delivery, There is an optional in-person Base Camp to start the season.
This includes:
-
On-ice drills for sweeping or delivery with tools like SmartBroom and lasers
-
Baseline testing, video capture, and feedback
-
Off-ice basics on fitness, routines, and nutrition
Base Camp is meant to help athletes build clarity, confidence, and technical direction for the season.
3
WEEKLY PROGRAMMING
BI-WEEKLY CHECK-INS
Once the season begins:
-
Each athlete receives a personalized weekly training plan (in gym, sweeping, delivery)
-
We hold bi-weekly virtual check-ins to review progress, answer questions, and adjust the plan
-
Athletes can submit videos for feedback and receive new drills or goals accordingly
This structure supports consistent growth throughout the season.
4
TUNE UP OR END SEASON WITH BASE CAMP
At the end of the season, teams or individuals can book a follow-up Base Camp or virtual review session to:
-
Re-test key metrics and track improvements
-
Reflect on progress made throughout the season
-
Set goals and strategies for off-season or next steps
This gives athletes a clear sense of how far they’ve come—and where they can go next.
